What Is Three Strikes?

"Three strikes and you're out" is a way of describing a law that about half of the states in the United States have enacted in some form. Three strikes has taken different forms but its essential elements are the same: it imposes a tough mandatory minimum prison sentence on three time violent criminals. We believe that sentence should be life without the possibility of parole. The minimum sentence imposed on a criminal under a three strikes statute would not be subject to a judge’s discretion. Three strikes reflects the belief that some criminals are so prone to violence and unwilling or unable to change that they should not be out on our streets because they pose a danger to society.
